We anticipate having puppies of both show and pet quality available. Show quality means I feel that the pup will grow up with few conformation faults (no dog is perfect) according to the AKC Official Standard of the Dachshund and will be able to finish it's breed championship with a good handler. Pet quality means that the pup has either several minor conformation (not health) faults or one major conformation fault (such as a missing testicle or a missing tooth) according to the AKC Official Standard of the Dachshund standard which would make it difficult, or even impossible, to finish it's AKC conformation championship title. Most of my pet quality pups are actually good enough to be shown and even win some points, unlike some breeders' pet stock who barely resemble dachshunds. Since there are usually at least one or two outstanding pups in each of my litters that I will keep for show and/or breeding, I feel that the slightly lesser quality pups deserve homes of their own as beloved companions.

Pet puppies, regardless of color, are sold on spay/neuter contracts with limited AKC registration papers and health guarantees for $450 (solid red & black/tan) or $650 (piebalds). People interested in a pet puppy should be prepared to provide references, such as from their vet and obedience/agility instructor or from a local kennel club member. Nonrefundable $50 deposits are accepted to reserve a pet quality puppy, although a specific pup cannot be chosen until the show quality pups have been selected at 10 weeks of age. Serious inquiries are invited from established breeders of show dogs for show-quality puppies as we do sell our good ones, both solids and piebalds, with show-potential guarantees. All show-quality puppies will be sold on co-ownerships, only. Duchwood's Flickering Flame MS - "Flicka" has improved a lot since she's been in heat. She is tiny girl but with good bone. She has a lovely shoulder assembly, nice rear angles, good ribbing and keel length and an adorable head; a little easty westy in front. She will mature around 8-9 lb. Flicka is a sweet, quiet girl who is still very much a puppy; she is crate trained and leash trained. I took her to a dog show recently and she was quite brave with all the big dogs and very friendly to people. She is available as a pet on a spay contract for $450.

Duchwood's Ramsey The Rake MS - "Ramsey" has a gorgeous head, good topline, lovely shoulder assembly, nice rear angles, ribbing and keel could be a little longer but not bad; chest circumference 34 cm; available as a show prospect on co-ownership for $700 (U.S. and Canada only), or outright for $1,400 (overseas). This is an extremely handsome, charismatic boy who should mature around 11 lb. He is a lovely mover and quite a character; he loves his stuffed octopus! Also available locally (in Louisiana or Mississippi) as a pet for $450 if someone is willing to keep him intact and let me show him. After he gets his championship, he can then be neutered.

Pups pictured at 5 months of age. These pups were born during Hurricane Katrina so the name theme will be hurricanes. The black/tan girl will be "Katrina" since she was the first one to be born during the hurricane right after all the lights went out. The entire litter was whelped by flashlight.

Duchwood's Hurricane Rita - Rita is an adorable dark red girl; lovely shoulder assembly, soft topline, a little hocky but otherwise pretty nice rear angles; pretty head; will be small (7.5-8.5 lb.); available as a pet for $450 on a spay contract. This is one sassy little girl who isn't afraid of anything.

Carries the piebald gene recessively. This is turning out to be one very handsome boy. He is also available as a pet locally to someone who will keep him intact long enough for me to show him to his championship.

The girl with the tail kink was euthanized at 5 weeks of age due to other birth defects which did not show up until I started weaning the pups. She had hydrocephalus (skull plates started opening up) and severe megaesophagus with resultant aspiration pneumonia. Pups with kinks in their tails are usually otherwise healthy - this one was an exception.

Keyna is a free-whelper and a good mom, but has produced defective puppies out of 2 different sires in her 2 litters. She will be spayed and will be looking for a special pet home after this litter is weaned. Keyna is lively and very friendly.
